This week I’ve had a few random thoughts. Observe, as I now proceed to dump them ungracefully into a single post.
- Achievement: I got my full licence. Yay! Ritualistic destruction of P plates successfully completed.
- Annoyance: Drivers who overtake when you’re travelling at the speed limit and then leave a 0.5 second following gap. If you’re gonna overtake, get away from my car! Don’t force me to slow down and create the safe following gap.
- Theory: David Duchovny is only doing that show to make himself appear less old. And possibly to offset Mulder’s extreme sexlessness.
- Suggestion: Tony Robinson should start a new show called “Passion 101.” I wouldn’t say I’m hugely fascinated by history but his pure unrestrained zeal could turn anyone into an anthropoligist.
- Ambition: To sell several random bits of junk on eBay before the end of the year.
- Hope: So there are still some creative computing projects out there.
- Desire: This and this (still) and one of these.
- Procurement: This and one of these.

Remember Plasmo? Well, our favourite little alien and his cronies are back, this time on DVD! And to add to the excitement, the creator Tony Lawrence has made a second series with 22 new episodes! Now, it’s our duty as loyal Plasmo fans to somehow convince the ABC to show the second series. Anyone have any creative ideas akin to the Jericho “Nuts” action? My first thought was turning up at the ABC studios with a giant inflatable Plasmo, but that could prove costly…

I spotted this convincing display of Engrish on the front of our local Chinese takeaway shop.

I’ve been eyeing off the new Intel Macs for a while now, but now the time has finally come. I’m going to buy a MacBook Pro as soon as I can get one with Leopard on it, which looks totally awesome by the way.
I was already 75% going to get a Mac, then I talked to a few MacBook Pro owners who all said “Get it, you’ll love it.” Then I watched these ads, the Leopard movies and found out about the $300 education discount on a MacBook Pro. And there was that last 25%. You might say I’ve been sucked in by their clever marketing, but as someone who’s been using PCs for over 10 years I totally agree with Apple’s take on PC. To be fair though, Macs did suck before OS X. And Apple too have their fair share of dumb design choices. The eMac, for example. And who could forget that stupid wireless mouse you can’t pick up and hold a click at the same time. But it feels like Apple has matured somewhat and those mistakes are now just history.
Watch the ads. They really are quite funny. I mean laugh out loud funny. And mega-cheesy. My favourites are Security, Meant for Work, Counselor, Better Results, Self Pity, Trust Mac, Out of the Box and Viruses. I can’t help but feel some smug satisfaction at the fury these must be inducing in Microsoft execs.

Allow :-)

Spring has finally arrived! Ahh, my favourite time of year ^_^
To celebrate this marked occasion, I present my observations of the local bee population that have begun harvesting the peach/plum blossoms in my backyard. Otherwise known as “in which I risk several injections of histamine” it was quite a relaxing experience, despite the difficulty of getting good shots of the little buggers. These fickle little creatures rarely stay on the same flower for more than about 10 seconds. Perhaps they are just fickle by nature, or maybe it had something to do with having a camera persistently poked in their faces. About half of the bees just ignored me while the rest moved on dutifully.
I love having this tree in my backyard. There are distinctly pink flowers around the base which suggests a graft. I think these are peach blossoms, while the white ones are plum. Anyway, I am inescapably reminded of sakura, adding to the list of references to Japan which recently appear to be increasing. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something…
