New Sounds of Hybrid

During a routine surf, I discovered that Hybrid have announced the (UK) release date for their forthcoming album titled “I Choose Noise” on September 4 2006 (see countdown). The guys have been kind enough to offer an MP3 of one of the tracks, “Just For Today” which you can download from the Official Hybrid Website (registration required). From the website:

“[The track] features the Seattle Session Orchestra and is collaboration between us, Harry Gregson-Williams and Kirsty Hawkshaw”

Hybrid are very true to form with their latest masterpiece, which strikes a perfect balance between the styles of their last two LPs, Morning Sci-Fi and Wide Angle. Pure breakbeat orchestral fusion at its finest.

The guys sum up the benefit of real orchestrations in the first sentence:

“There’s a certain period while making a Hybrid album when tracks we’ve been toying with in a darkened room in Swansea really start to come to life … for this LP we’ve taken an American slant and have recorded the Seattle Session Orchestra. They’re known more for providing the sound of Hollywood film scores than for adding drama to electronic albums…”

Harry Gregson-Williams is one of the true gods of the score composition arena. His best works include the Enemy of the State and Metal Gear Solid II soundtracks, and “Just For Today” is evidence that things are only getting better for Hybrid. The Seattle Session Orchestra contributes an almost limitless depth to this track, and if this preview is anything to go by, we can expect “I Choose Noise” to be another Hybrid epic.
