I almost literally jumped for joy when I read that Australian Government officials are considering introducing an R18+ rating for video games. About bloody time is all I can say. The story was originally reported by The Age in an article unfortunately titled “R-rating risks influx of excessively violent games”. However, the article goes on to cite research conducted by a Queensland university claiming that in Australia, 50% of gamers are over 18 and that the average age of gamers is 28.

I do agree that there should be a R rating for games in Australia but I don’t know of any decent game that I have missed out on for it not existing.
