Cyclone Hamish on NASA satellite

At about 11:00am this morning, NASA’s Terra-MODIS satellite passed over Queensland and took this scary photo of Cyclone Hamish, a storm meteorologists are claiming to be on par with Hurricane Katrina.

Kitteh has been busy again

OK so forgive this post for braggyness, but I can’t help myself. That photo I took of a kitteh a couple of Christmases ago was recently on a site called The Daily Kitten. And you know what that means… I have to make it into a really funny LOLcat and get it on ICHC. How are my chances? You can help out by posting captions suggestions in the comments. Or LOLify it yourself and send in. Yay for LOLcats. And yes, in case you were wondering, I am still not over them. So there.

What if…

A while ago I came across Phojoe, a site offering age progression photos. Some of them are pretty darn spectacular. They admit on the site that the process is really more of an art form, rather than a strict science in the forensic sense. With this in mind, one of the testimonials caught my eye.

My son wanted to be a Professional Baseball Player…Phojoe, I am so pleased with the photo, please go ahead and send them. I can’t express to you what an amazing gift your service is, especially to a grieving parent. You’ve helped to answer one of the many “what if’s” I’ve had since I lost my son. Thank You again, so very much. Gratefully,
Allison P – Jamestown, SC

This quote almost got me a bit choked up. Try reading it when it’s sitting right under the photo of her son, who looks about 5 years old. Now I’ll try and say this next bit without sounding too heartless…

The age progression is basically a fantasy; an artist’s impression of what could have been. While it looks convincing at first glance, if you look closer, the eyes have changed from brown to blue and the nose looks quite different. It’s not a stretch to imagine this as a stock photo, or a composite of stock features. So it puzzles me how such a fabrication has the power to bring relief to a grieving mother. Maybe I don’t get it because I don’t have kids of my own.

Schmapp

So yeah, that Creative Commons thing. Very soon after Josh posted this, I changed all my Flickr photos to the CC-Attribution licence, from the CC-NonCommercial licence and now Schmapp have used one of my Tassie photos on their website. It’s some travel guide thingy.

Right, now back to playing Mario Kart.

I’d call mine “Sparky”

Fate has clicked me through to a site with some awesome pictures of Tesla coil fun. This guy and his cronies must have a death wish. Apparently they’re in Bunbury! There is obviously nothing better to do in that town than try and electrocute yourself and your neighbours. And as for Tesla coils: DO WANT. Hmm… I wonder if there are any instructions on how to build one…
